  • Parish History

    • In Swedish King Magnus Eriksson handed over the patronage (responsibility) of the Porvoo parish along with the chapels of Sibo and Pernå to the monks in Padi’s monastery in Estonia
    • In the bishop and the cathedral parish of Åbo (Finnish- Turku) redeemed ownership of the parish and chapels for themselves
    • It is not known when Pernå became an independent parish
    • Lapinjarvi, Liljendal and Lovissa were originally a part of Pernå 8

    “Mikael Agricola ( – ), founder of written Finnish was born in Perna in the early 16th century.  He is considered to be the ‘Reformator of Finland’; integral in the movement from Catholicism to Lutheranism.”
